Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA)

Course Objective
To allow the provider to respond to a casualty and utilise a range of airway devices including the LMA, nasal pharyngeal airway as well as basic airway manouvers

Course Content
Basic life support refresher, basic airway manoeuvres, insertion of the oral and nasal airway, use of the LMA, medical gases

Minimum Qualifications / notes
First Aid at work or health care professional

The LMA has a proven track record in airway management in hospital use, its use is now emerging into the pre hospital scene and is proving invaluable in managing the airway of a casualty in various settings including when used by a solo responder, a trapped casualty in a confined space or motor vehicle and the rapid management of the airway prior to extrication from a hostile area. The practical course shows how to position and secure the airway and is included within our trauma courses.
