Trauma Trainer Course

This course is run in conjunction with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Services at their Washington Hall international training centre

Course Objective
This 5 day course is designed to allow fire service instructors the suitable depth of knowledge to deliver a 12hr trauma course. The course is both theoretical and practical in nature, focusing on systems of trauma and provides simple life saving skills and interventions that are proven to be efficacious for the casualty. The candidates are given several scenarios based training sessions to practice the techniques they have learnt in real situations such as RTC, Rescue from height and confined space.

Course Content
Core Modules in kinematics, scene safety, advanced airway techniques, cardio – respiratory assessment, defibrillation, medical gases, packaging and evacuation. Practical sessions focus on fire related scenarios including RTC’s, falls form heights and confined space rescue.

Minimum Qualifications / notes
Professional Fire-fighter or member of works / airport fire brigade with an interest in casualty care. Candidate must hold a relevant instructors qualification. Following the one-week course it is recommended that candidates access a week of hospital training to allow them to practice their skills and create a portfolio to provide evidence of this experience. It is then possible for candidates to register with the European Association of Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics as a registered fire-fighter medic advanced providing they have 4 years operational experience. Lancashire Fire and Rescue can assist you in accessing hospital placement outside Lancashire where necessary.
