Quality Assurance
Trauma and Resuscitation Services Ltd (TRS) are providers of training on a variety of trauma, resuscitation and critical care subjects.
The educational content of the courses is governed by the Faculty of TRS which comprises of Doctors, Nurses, ODPs and other pre-hospital care specialists. The Faculty meets a minimum of 4 times a year to review current course content and new evidence based publications. Guidance is also taken from the UK Resuscitation Council, the Royal College of Anaesthetists, the Royal College of Surgeons, the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care and the Health and Safety Executive.
All TRS instructors are registered health care professionals with a formal teaching and assessing qualification. TRS instructors attend an annual training day and have their instructor portfolios audited every 2 years. TRS also utilises specialist instructors from a variety of pre-hospital care backgrounds. These instructors also have a formal teaching and assessing qualification, attend an annual training day and have their instructor portfolios audited every 2 years. A TRS full instructor is present on every course.
TRS also provide clinical governance to Fire and Rescue Services delivering the Immediate Emergency Care (IEC) course to its Fire-Fighters. This governance includes provision of a Medical Director to advise on all matters relating to trauma, resuscitation and first-aid. The Medical Director is also responsible for arranging an annual audit of the IEC course documentation, training equipment, live trauma / first-aid equipment and any HSE First-aid requirements.
Fire service personal who are delivering the IEC course on behalf of TRS have to initially complete a 5 day Trauma Trainer course and a 5 part assessment process. Once complete the Trauma Trainers then deliver the IEC course with the content and course structure provided by TRS. All course dates must be forwarded to TRS and TRS personnel will visit at least 1 course per annum for quality assurance. The IEC assessments must be completed by a Trauma Trainer not involved with the delivery of the course and completed assessment kept for a minimum of 5 years. A selection of these assessments will be audited every year by TRS.
The Trauma Trainers have to complete an annual requalification course ran by TRS at which time a randomised audit of the trainer portfolios will be performed.
