What is Suspension Trauma?
Suspension trauma is a condition that can affect all people using harnesses. It can present extremely rapidly and result in unconsciousness and ultimately death in the otherwise uninjured suspended casualty. Because of the rapid onset of suspension trauma it is now accepted that simply dialling 999 is no longer a practical solution.
This course has been written as a result of the general lack of a coordinated response to a suspension trauma casualty; it is as a result of over four years of research and medical advice. The course was developed by construction professionals in liaison with health care professionals. One of our directors was instrumental in setting up a rapid response rope rescue team on a major highways project in the UK he has since been asked to attend various conferences and talks to present the issue.
